Contractors are in a stressful period

Although it may sound impossible for contractors working at the home depot to be in a stressful situation, that is exactly what Ellen Myers, a San Francisco Bay Area homeowner, experienced. Her contractor was subpar. He would disappear for as long as 10 days. He miscut a tile in her basement and went missing several times. She fired the Home Depot contractors and tried to talk with the company to fix the problems, but to no avail.

How do you replace a broken window?

Repairing broken windows is one the most common home improvement jobs. This task involves repairing any damage to your glass. This repair will take only 30 minutes. However, if you are not familiar with how to replace broken panes of glass, you may cause further damage to the home. This article provides some tips on replacing a broken window.

First, remove the old glass from its frame

First, remove all screws that hold the glass in place. Then undo the lock at the top center of the bottom section of the window frame. Next, raise the window so it isn't attached to the sillplate (the metal strip below the floor). Use a pry to loosen any remaining screws. Once the panes are removed, clean them thoroughly.

Step 2: Clean the new glasses

Use a dry cloth or paper towel to wipe away any dirt from the surface of the glass. To remove any dirt or other debris from the glass' surface, spray it with water and rub alcohol.

Third Step: Reinstall the replacement glass

Reattach the window panels to the frames. Begin by gently pressing down on one end of the outermost panel with the tip a screwdriver. Gently push your pane back into its opening. Next, insert the next pane by pressing it against the first pane. Continue to insert the panes until you have assembled the whole window. Seal the area where the panes meet with silicone caulk gun.

Fourth Step: Repair the area damaged

When installing the new glass, inspect the area around the hole to determine whether any additional repairs are needed. In the event that the hole is located near the corner of your window, place two small pieces on either side of it. These wooden blocks will provide strength for the window, as well as acting as spacers during the expansion or contraction of the weatherproofing.

Fiveth step: Seal the repair area

After the glass has had to be replaced, apply silicone caulking at the perimeter edges. This will create a seal between the glass frame and the wallboard. Silicone caulking is available at hardware stores as well as online. You should choose a color to match the wall paint.

Let the caulking dry overnight. After the caulking has dried completely, do not disturb it. You can cause cracking in the caulking if it isn't left enough time.
